Tesla charged $159,420 apiece for the last Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid it will build. Same price. Both cars. Invite only. Tesla never issued a press release. The numbers lived on a locked order page and in emails to people Tesla already sold a car to.
Elon Musk called it an “honorable discharge” on Tesla’s January 28, 2026 earnings call. He said the company would wind down Model S and Model X production the next quarter and turn the Fremont space into an Optimus line. On the April 22 call he said the last cars would leave the line in early May. tesla.com still hosts the product pages. You cannot order a new one.
Tesla’s invite pages capped the run at 250 Signature Model S Plaids and 100 Signature Model X Plaids. 350 cars. The first Signature Series, in 2012, was the first 1,000 Model S sedans off the Fremont line. This one puts a gold T on the goodbye.
Tesla did not publish Signature-specific photos. The pictures here are official Tesla product shots of the current Plaid cars, not the Garnet Red cars with gold badges.

What $159,420 bought
Garnet Red. Tesla’s own service docs list the paint as PR02, a tricoat metallic. Gold Tesla T on the nose. Gold Plaid and Signature badges on the tail. White Alcantara, gold piping, Signature door sills, and a numbered dash plate: 1/250 or 1/100. The S got carbon-ceramic brakes and gold calipers. The X kept the red Plaid calipers and came only as a six-seater.
Tesla bundled a Luxe Package on every car: Full Self-Driving (Supervised), lifetime Supercharging, four years of Premium Service, lifetime Premium Connectivity, and a Signature key fob. The S order page added a $1,390 destination charge. $160,810 if you got the email. That is a lot of money for paint, badges, and software Tesla already sells à la carte. The tri-motor Plaid hardware is the 2021 car.

The S still claimed 1.99 seconds
Tesla’s Signature S page listed 1.99 seconds to 60 mph, a 200 mph top speed, and 309 miles of range. The 309 matches the EPA listing for a 2026 Model S Plaid on 21-inch wheels. A regular Plaid on the same EPA sheet is 368. Signature cars wore 21-inch Velarium wheels.
- Model S Signature: 1.99-second 0–60, 200 mph, 309 EPA miles on 21-inch Velarium wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, gold calipers
- Model X Signature: 2.5-second 0–60, 163 mph, six seats only, 22-inch Machina wheels
- Both: $159,420 before destination, invite only, Garnet Red, Luxe Package included
Carbon ceramics were the one hardware change Tesla actually made on the S. Yoke steering came standard. The rest is a Plaid with jewelry.

The X was the same send-off with falcon doors
The Signature X page listed 2.5 seconds, 163 mph, and 303 miles on 22-inch Machina wheels. EPA’s public 2026 Model X Plaid listing is 335 miles. Tesla did not publish a separate 22-inch EPA line, so treat 303 as Tesla’s order-page number, not a government sticker. Six seats only. One hundred units. Tesla never confirmed a sell-out in a filing.

The line is gone
Fremont built the Model S since 2012 and the Model X since 2015. Those two cars are why anyone took Tesla seriously. Musk said on the Q1 call that upstream S/X tooling was already coming apart in April, and final assembly would follow the last car in May. Tesla’s Q4 2025 update still listed 100,000 units of annual S/X capacity at Fremont. That line item is now a caption.
Tesla asked collector money for a numbered Plaid, a paint color it would not sell you last year, and a software bundle it already meters. The cars that made the company got a gold badge and an email. That is the discharge.
