The 2026 Jeep Cherokee Starts at $36,995 and Claims 500 Miles

Jeep priced the Cherokee at $36,995 including destination and called it a comeback. The last one died after 2023. This one is an all-new midsize hybrid with a 1.6-liter turbo-four, two electric motors, and a battery that does not take a plug. Stellantis’ August 21, 2025 reveal is the source. Estimated 37 mpg combined. More than 500 miles to a tank. 210 horsepower. Standard 4×4.

A 1.6-liter turbo and two motors

This is the first Jeep hybrid of this type. Stellantis says so. Combustion engine, two electric motors, a battery. Combined output is 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft. The engine itself, from the same-day powertrain release, makes 177 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 221 lb-ft from 2,000 to 3,500. Miller-cycle. Up to 38 psi of boost. Aluminum block and head. Built at Dundee in Michigan.

The pack is a 1.03-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion unit. Stellantis says it can push the Cherokee to 62 mph for short stretches with the engine off. That is not a plug-in. There is no cord. The company spent a press release insisting on that. The transmission is a two-motor variable power-split. Not a gearbox you can brag about.

Official figures from the August 21 reveal:

  • Estimated 37 mpg combined, more than 500 miles to a tank
  • 210 hp and 230 lb-ft combined
  • Standard Jeep Active Drive I 4×4 with rear-axle disconnect
  • Selec-Terrain: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud
  • 8 inches of ground clearance; 19.6-degree approach, 29.4 departure, 18.8 breakover

30 percent more cargo, 8 inches of Jeep

Vince Galante’s team made it longer, taller, and wider than the last Cherokee. Seven-slot grille. Squared-off LED headlights with a U-shaped daytime running light. Jerrican taillights. The last Cherokee looked like a focus group that hated Jeeps. This one looks like an XJ that went to design school.

Jeep claims 30 percent more cargo than the previous generation. jeep.com currently lists 68.3 cubic feet with the second row folded. Towing is 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, which Jeep calls unsurpassed in class. Water fording is 20 inches. Approach, departure, and breakover are the numbers above. Ground clearance is still 8 inches. That is a crossover number wearing a seven-slot grille.

$36,995, four trims, all hybrid

Every Cherokee gets a 10.25-inch cluster and a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Rotary gear selector. Active Driving Assist is standard, Jeep’s Level 2 system with adaptive cruise. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, intersection collision assist, drowsy driver detection. The release counts 140 standard and available safety features. Press releases count that way.

Four trims. All 4×4. All hybrid. From the August 21 Stellantis release, destination included:

  • Cherokee: $36,995
  • Laredo: $39,995
  • Limited: $42,495
  • Overland: $45,995

Jeep’s own news page later listed Limited and Overland $500 cheaper. The expensive ones were due at dealers in late 2025. The cheap ones in early 2026. Today is August 14, 2026. jeep.com/cherokee is live. Built at Toluca Assembly in Mexico.

Jeep left the midsize segment, then came back with a 1.6-liter hybrid and 8 inches of ground clearance. 37 mpg. 500 miles. $36,995 with the destination charge. The Cherokee is a Jeep again. Sort of.
