Volkswagen UK still sells the Polo with a factory three-pedal gearbox. The official product API and Polo page put the range from £22,310 On The Road for the Life 1.0 MPI 80 PS five-speed manual, and the maker still lists both a 5-speed Manual and a 7-speed DSG across the line.

In a supermini class that keeps drifting toward automatics and hybrids, that is not a small detail.

The clutch, still on the order form

This is the part that matters for Autogonzo. On the live Polo page, Volkswagen UK prints Gear: 5-speed Manual, 7-speed DSG. Dig into the official derivatives and the clutch is not a leftover base-only trick:

  • Life keeps a 5MT on both the 80 PS MPI and the 95 PS TSI.
  • Match, Match Plus, R-Line and Black Edition all still offer a 1.0 TSI 95 PS five-speed manual.
  • The 115 PS TSI on R-Line and Black Edition is 7-speed DSG only.
  • Polo GTI (207 PS, 0–62 mph in 6.5 seconds on the UK page) is listed as available from stock only, and the official trim write-up puts paddles on the steering wheel — it is a DSG car, not a three-pedal one.

So if you want a new Polo and a clutch pedal, stay on the 80 PS or 95 PS petrols. Step up to 115 PS or the GTI and Volkswagen has already chosen the dual-clutch for you.

The numbers Volkswagen printed

The Polo overview lists Performance: 80–207 PS and Acceleration 0–62 mph: 6.5–15.6 s (that span includes the stock-only GTI). Official derivative figures for the manuals include:

  • Life 1.0 MPI 80 PS 5MT: 0–62 mph in 15.6 s, 53.9 mpg combined
  • Life / Match / Match Plus / R-Line 1.0 TSI 95 PS 5MT: 0–62 mph in 10.8 s, about 55.1–55.2 mpg combined
  • Black Edition 1.0 TSI 95 PS 5MT: 0–62 mph in 10.8 s, 53.5 mpg combined
  • Same 95 PS engines on 7-speed DSG: 0–62 mph in 11.5 s, roughly 52.9–53.1 mpg
  • R-Line / Black Edition 1.0 TSI 115 PS DSG: 0–62 mph in 9.8 s

Trims on the UK site: Life, Match, Style/Match Plus territory, R-Line, Black Edition and GTI. Entry Life gets 15-inch Essex alloys, LED headlights, wireless App-Connect and inductive phone charging. Match Plus adds 16-inch Torsby alloys, a rear-view camera, tinted rear glass, front sensors, keyless access and heated front seats. R-Line brings Coventry 16s, Digital Cockpit Pro and R-Line cloth. Edition 50 and Black Edition dress it up further; GTI is the 207 PS hot one — paddles, no third pedal.
