Volkswagen priced the 2026 Golf GTI at $34,590. That is the starting MSRP for the S trim on VW’s official 2026 Golf GTI press kit. Destination is $1,275. Tax, title, and license are extra. The same kit pairs the hot hatch with one gearbox only: a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic.
No clutch in the book
This is the clutch graf, and Volkswagen printed the opposite of a stick. The 2026 Golf GTI press kit says the EA888 evo4 engine “is paired with a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission with Tiptronic®.” The factory page on vw.com/en/models/golf-gti.html matches that story: Starting MSRP of $34,590 for a 2026 Golf GTI S 2.0L TSI® with 7-speed DSG® transmission. No six-speed manual. No third pedal. If you want three pedals in a compact VW with a red stripe, the sibling that still prints one is the 2026 Jetta GLI.
241 hp. 273 lb-ft. DSG only.
The kit keeps the familiar 2.0-liter TSI from the EA888 evo4 family: 241 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 273 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels through that seven-speed DSG, with Start-Stop and launch control called out in the same powertrain section. Standard hardware includes the torque-sensing VAQ limited-slip differential. Official EPA estimates from the kit: 24 city / 32 highway / 27 combined.
S, SE, Autobahn. One shifter story.
For 2026 the Golf GTI stays in three trims—S, SE, and Autobahn—with the S sticker at $34,590 before the $1,275 destination charge. The press kit stacks the usual GTI kit: 12.9-inch MIB3 touchscreen, 30-color ambient lighting, IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance, and the red-stripe face with the honeycomb lower intake. Autobahn still gets the bigger wheel look; SE and Autobahn add Light Assist. None of those trim lines reintroduce a manual row in the official book.
The hot hatch kept the turbo. It left out the clutch.
