Volkswagen priced the 2026 Golf R at $49,455. That is the starting MSRP in VW’s official 2026 Golf R press kit. Destination is $1,275. Tax, title, and license are extra. The same kit pairs the all-wheel-drive hot hatch with one gearbox only: a seven-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic with Tiptronic®.
No clutch in the book
This is the clutch graf, and Volkswagen printed the opposite of a stick. The 2026 Golf R press kit says the EA888 evo4 engine “is paired with a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission with Tiptronic®.” The recently updated DSG “is now designed to stay in manual mode if the driver has selected it when in ‘Special’ or ‘Drift’ driving mode.” That is paddle-and-program talk, not a third pedal. If you want three pedals in a compact VW, the sedan that still prints one is the 2026 Jetta GLI.
328 hp. 295 lb-ft. 4Motion. DSG only.
VW’s kit puts the EA888 evo4 at 1,984 cc with 328 horsepower at 5,850 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm on premium fuel — 13 more horsepower than the MY24 Golf R. Power goes through that seven-speed DSG into 4Motion all-wheel drive with a rear differential that can send up to 100% of rear torque to one rear wheel. The kit also calls out Start-Stop, launch control, and advanced DCC® adaptive damping as part of the standard stack.
