Caterham Priced the 2026 Seven 420 Nürburgring Edition at £48,995 and Kept Only the Clutch

Caterham priced the Seven 420 Nürburgring Edition from £48,995 including VAT in the UK. That comes from Caterham’s May 15, 2026 launch release and the car’s official model page. Caterham is building 100, each with a numbered plaque, to mark the circuit’s 100th year. The spec sheet lists one gearbox: a five-speed manual.

The clutch: five speeds, no alternative

The Nürburgring Edition specification lists the transmission as a “5-speed manual gearbox,” and the transmission section repeats it, along with a limited-slip differential and a dry-sump oil system. The options list adds seats, cages, a heater, lowered floors and weather gear. There is no automatic and no paddle-shift option. The launch release says the Duratec is “paired with a five-speed gearbox.” Caterham also gives this car its own key stock, gear knob and handbrake lever. The regular Seven 420 it’s based on is listed with the same five-speed manual, and so is the 19-car Seven HWM Edition Caterham launched in March. On a Seven, you shift for yourself.

The official number board

  • Price: from £48,995 including VAT (UK)
  • Production: 100 cars worldwide, based on a Seven 420R or 340R depending on market
  • Engine: Ford Duratec 1,999 cc four-cylinder, naturally aspirated
  • Output: 210 bhp at 7,600 rpm, 203 Nm at 6,300 rpm
  • Weight: 560 kg (specification dependent), 375 bhp per tonne
  • 0–60 mph: 3.8 seconds; top speed: 136 mph
  • Steering: rack and pinion, 1.93 turns lock to lock
  • Gearbox: five-speed manual, limited-slip differential

For context, Caterham’s range page lists the regular Seven 420 from £41,990. That figure is marked as the self-assembly price, so it isn’t a like-for-like comparison with the Nürburgring Edition’s £48,995. Standard and large chassis are both offered. The large one is 3,350 mm long and 1,685 mm wide, compared with 3,100 mm and 1,575 mm for the standard chassis.

Bilstein did the dampers

The main hardware change is suspension. Caterham says Bilstein developed a bespoke race setup only for this model on its vertical dynamics test rig, tuned for the Nordschleife’s 12.9 miles and 73 corners. The rest of the Nürburgring Pack is in the spec list. It includes three circuit paints (Verkehrsrot, Achatgrau and Basaltgrau), a red track-day roll bar, a 620-style nosecone with carbon aero whiskers, carbon front wings, a Gunmetal Grey chassis and a Black Pack. You also get a composite aeroscreen, LED rear lights and 13-inch Apollo black alloys. The front brakes are solid discs with twin-piston calipers, and the master cylinder is uprated.

Inside are leather seats with Nürburgring embroidery and red stitching, carbon interior panels, a red-stitched tunnel top, four-point harnesses and sequential shift lights. Caterham unveiled the car at the 2026 ADAC 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Its release also mentions the brand’s 11th-place finish in the 2002 race, with Chris Harris among the drivers.

That’s £48,995 for 560 kg, 210 naturally aspirated horsepower, Bilstein dampers and a numbered plaque, with a five-speed manual as the only gearbox. For something lighter on the wallet with a clutch, Autogonzo has covered the $30,430 MX-5 Sport. For a British manual at the other end of the price scale, see the £96,500 Lotus Emira V6 SE.
